What better present for a kid than his very own fireplace. Little Inferno is just such a thing. With hours of fun getting to burn everything you discard and don’t love anymore! The game is pretty straight forward, the entire purpose of it is to burn objects. You go to your hub, you order new items and burn them! You can set up combos with different items, and keep on unlucking new things to buy.
The entire game is a sandbox game, designed as satire and there is not any way to fail or lose the game. The gameplay is rather simple, but the narration is funny. It does strike as sort of gimmicky. You can run through the entire game in a couple of hours, having burned everything in your path.
Most of the game you get to see is right in front of your fireplace. The graphics are unique and certainly has a distinct style. Things are interesting to look at, and has a nice, dystopian undertone. At the end of the game you get to visit the very fabric producing your favorite toy and go through a short story arch. Here the art style really shines through and you get a glimpse into the dystopian world of Little Inferno.
When playing the game there isn’t much of a soundtrack. There are different sound effects, such as the burning itself, but also in relation to what is being burned. The only soundtrack you get to listen to is when entering the hub to buy new, burnable elements – an annoying jingle!
All in all Little Inferno is a neat piece of unique sandboxy experience. Don’t expect too much, the gameplay is very monotonous. It is carried by the uniqueness of the gameplay – and for that reason might be worth picking up. It is an interesting idea that you will either like or dislike. There is definatly humour to be found, and the dystopian world is interesting. And, if not, it is a very fitting game to play in the cold winter month!
